Things to do in Los Angeles this weekend (9-29-10/2/16)-

Thursday

Gringo Star are playing at The Satellite with The Relationship (Weezer guitarist Brian Bell’s band) and Night Talks

Hammer Museum is showing Eva Hesse, a documentary about the artist with a Q & A with the director Marcie Begleiter and producer Karen Shapiro afterwards

Trentemøller is performing and signing copies of his new album Fixion at Amoeba Hollywood before his sold out show at Hollywood Forever’s Mason Lodge  (free but get there early)

It’s the first of two nights of UnSilent Cinema at FIGat7th (presented by Arts Brookfield) where musicians provide a contemporary score for classic silent films. Tonight Marc Ribot will score Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid and Alvin Youngblood Hart will score Fatty Arbuckle’s Out West. There will also be a Chaplin Speakeasy Happy Hour and DJs before the program begins. (free)

As part of  The Broad’s film series Doll Parts, tonight they will be screening Ming Wong’s Life of Imitation followed by Douglas Sirk’s Imitation of Life ($12 includes same-night access to the museum

The Soul Rebels Sound System ft. Talib Kweli are playing at the Fonda Theatre

For the second night of UnSilent Cinema at FIGat7th, electronic musicians will be the focus for the program- Daedelus will be scoring Charlie Chaplin’s Easy Street, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith will be scoring Harry Smith’s Early Abstractions, Jimmy Tamborello will be scoring Buster Keaton’s Cops, and Callie will be scoring Chaplin’s One A.M.

Thievery Corporation are playing the Greek Theatre with Chronixx

Front Porch Cinema is hosting a free movie night at the Santa Monica Pier with a screening of Zootopia

The Regrettes are playing at Non Plus Ultra with Casinos and Liily

TV Girl, Avid Dancer, and Bad Wave are playing at The Hi Hat

Jimmy Kimmel Live is having a yard sale in the studio’s back parking lot in Hollywood to benefit My Friend’s Place, an organization that helps homeless youth

For the performance- At the Edge of Space and Time: Expanding beyond Our 4% Universe, at the Hammer Museum, collaborators Jennifer Moon and laub will “bring viewers on an adventure through the cosmos, the multiverse, and beyond, presenting ideas about love, faith, and revolution by queering various scientific disciplines”. It’s Dublab’s 17th Anniversary and they are having a party at Union Nightclub (formerly known as Jewel’s Catch One) with performances by Peanut Butter Wolf, Egyptian Lover and many more
