Pinegrove are playing with Florist and Lomelda at the Echoplex

Sinkane is opening for Turkuaz at the Teragram Ballroom

Santa Monica Pier is hosting a free movie night- this week the film is The Princess Bride

Saint Etienne are playing at the Fonda Theatre

As part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival, Alice Bag will be speaking at the Ahmanson Auditorium at MOCA Grand ($10)

The Container Yard downtown is hosting Fresh Coat Mural Festival, a free party with music by Peanut Butter Wolf and RJD2, and a chance to check out some new murals

Red Bull Music Academy Festival is hosting- St. Vincent: Fear the Future, a brand new show, at Paramount Pictures Studio

CalJam 17 Fest is taking place in San Bernadino with bands that include Foo Fighters, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, White Reaper and more ($99+)

Justus Proffit and BOYO are opening for Ratboys at the Bootleg Theater

Mashrou’ Leila are playing at The Regent Theater

Grand Park is hosting the The Big Draw LA’s Make Your Mark in the Park- a chance to learn how to draw with lessons led by Ryman Arts students (free)

Artist Mary Corse will be in conversation with art critic and historian Suzanne Hudson at LACMA’s Art Catalogues (free)

Future Primitive is having a 20th Anniversary Party with Cut Chemist, DJ Shortkut and J Rocc, at the Echoplex

For the last of the free Twilight Concerts at Santa Monica Pier, Warpaint is playing with Wild Belle opening

NAVEL.LA (co-organized with Ghosting TV and WOAH) is hosting the premiere screening of ECLIPSECORE, 27 artists respond to the 2017 North American Eclipse, which will also include live music and a DJ set, and a discussion with researchers from NASA JPL (free but RSVP) and donate

It’s the first night of Echo Park Rising, a free multi-venue, all ages music festival. Too many bands to list them all but for each night I’ll put a few band listings- tonight’s highlights include- The Blank Tapes and Sextile at Taix; Creation Factory and Dungen at The Echo; and The Red Pears and Goon at The Echo Patio (schedule here)

TOKiMONSTA, Gavin Turek, and Ambré are performing at this week’s Disappear Here, the free music night at Hammer Museum

For the closing of the exhibition Shapeshifters at Shulamit Nazarian Gallery in Venice,  XINA XURNER (Shapeshifters artist Young Joon Kwak’s musical performance collaboration with Marvin Astorga) will present a new performance that combines voice, music, movement, and interaction with Kwak’s sculptures and features artist and composer Elisa Harkins and Travis R-D of performance collective Project Rage Queen. The performance will be followed by a conversation between Kwak and artist Jennifer Moon.
