The Broad’s feminist Latinx performances series, En Cuatro Patas, continues with three performances by Deborah Castillo, Oscar David Alvarez and Nadio Granados taking place throughout the museum ($25)

A Place to Bury Strangers are playing at the Echoplex with Beak>

The Buttertones are playing at The Fonda Theatre with Twin Temple and Prettiest Eyes opening

Sons of Kemet are playing at The Echo with Yontan Gat and Eastern Medicine Singers

The Aero Theatre has an Orson Welles double feature- F for Fake and Citizen Kane

ArtNight Pasadena is a great way to check out the museums and creative spaces in Pasadena as well as see live performances- all free with free shuttles provided to take you around

Mothers are playing at Resident with Lala Lala opening

At ICA LA they are having a free event to celebrate the launch of the online literary magazine SUBLEVEL Issue Two: The Speculative with an evening of poetry by Will Alexander, and a screening of work by artist Nicole Miller followed by a conversation between Miller and writer Tisa Bryant.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door at LACMA for a screening of The Sisters Brothers with a post screening conversation with John C. Reilly

Screaming Females are playing at the Bootleg Theater with Kitten Forever and Scorpio Scorpio opening

Buke And Gase are opening for Shellac at the Teragram Ballroom

Desert Daze has a long list of great bands playing all weekend including- Tame Impala, Ty Segall & White Fence, Deathgrips, A Place to Bury Strangers, Kevin Morby, Preoccupations, Bedouine, Sons of Kemet, L.A. Witch, Wand, Julia Holter and more- but you have to leave LA- it’s at Moreno Beach at Lake Perris

 

Saturday

The Dodos are playing at the Moroccan Lounge with Prism Tats opening

LACMA is hosting a free screening of La Grande Sortie, directed by artist Alex Prager. After the screening there will be a free talk and book signing with the artist and LACMA CEO and Wallis Annneberg Director Michael Govan

Photographer Paul Sepuya will be speaking with Hamza Walker about the relationship between artist and subject, representation, nudity and intimacy at The Getty Museum (free with ticket)

Bill Laurance is playing an early (5:30pm) show at the Echoplex

 

Saturday and Sunday

The Brewery Art Walk is back for its free two day event- a chance to see what artists in the massive complex are working on as well as enjoying some food and drinks

David Lynch is curating a two day event called Festival of Disruption at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel. There will be talks and screenings, including one with Lynch, performances by RZA, Mercury Rev, and Vic Mensa, a soundbath called Liminal with Jonsi of Sigur Ros, Alex Somers, and Paul Corley, art exhibits and more

 

Sunday

Christopher Rountree and members of the LA Phil will perform Ben Patterson’s Instruction No.2 (Please Wash Your Face) of 1964, Rebekah Heller of the International Contemporary Ensemble will lead a participatory workshop designed around the music of Pauline Oliveros in the Central Garden, and Fluxus scholar Natilee Harren will give an illustrated talk drawing from the Getty’s extensive archives of Fluxus ephemera all as part of LA Phil Fluxus Festival: Fluxus Learning Event at The Getty (free but ticket required)

La Santa Cecilia is performing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Orson Welles double feature programming continues at the Aero Theatre with Chimes at Midnight and The Immortal Story

Musician and writer Tim Kasher is screening his debut feature film at the Bootleg Theater with a concert and Q & A to follow

LACMA has a free screening of an episode of One Mississippi and includes a conversation with Tig Notaro, executive producer Kate Robin, and some of the cast

For the third installment of Paul McCarthy’s free outdoor film series at Hauser & Wirth, the films are Heidi and Waterworld

Chance The Rapper’s brother Taylor Bennett is also a rapper and he’s performing at the Echoplex tonight with Melo Makes Music

New Mystics are playing at The Echo with HOTT MT, The Red Pears and Yeses opening

Irish punk band Stiff Little Fingers are playing at the El Rey Theatre with Death By Unga Bunga opening

Fruit Bats are playing a solo set with Jed Maheu opening at Resident

The Ohana Music Fest starts today at Doheny State Beach with Social Distortion, Pixies, TV On The Radio, The Orwells and more- it’s not cheap though- each night is $100+ (continues Saturday with Eddie Vedder headlining  and Sunday with Jack Johnson headlining)

To celebrate the life of Jeanne Moreau, the Aero Theatre is showing a double feature- La Notte and Diary of a Chambermaid (Saturday they are showing Jules and Jim and Bay of Angels)

The Wiltern is showing Easy Rider with a live band providing the soundtrack

Corbin & Shlohmo are playing at The Novo

Sunstock Solar Arts & Music Festival returns for its second year with bands Freedom Fry, Robert DeLong, Ra Ra Riot, Fuzzy Crystals, and more

ICA LA (Institute of Contemporary Art) is having it’s Grand Opening Weekend with exhibition tours, talks, performances, workshops and more (free, also on Sunday)

It’s the second day of the Day N Night Fest in Anaheim and tonight Chance The Rapper, SZA, Vic Mensa, Earl Sweatshirt, Lil Uzi Vert, and Playboi Carti are just some of the many performers (Travis Scott headlines Friday)

Pamela M. Lee, Osgood Hooker Professorship in Fine Arts, Stanford University, will be at LACMA to discuss the art scenes in New York and Los Angeles at the time Virginia Dwan operated her galleries in the two cities. The free lecture is in conjunction with LACMAs current exhibition Los Angeles to New York: Dwan Gallery, 1959–1971

For the opening of their exhibition at Gavlak Gallery, Los Super Elegantes will be performing a medley of their greatest performances
