This song is off Hersh’s 1994 debut album Hips and Makers. She is playing at The Echo, 11/1/2015, and in conversation with LA Weekly’s Andy Hermann at Book Soup for her book Don’t Suck Don’t Die: Giving Up Vic Chesnutt at 4pm.

The Ramones- Pet Sematary

This song was written for the film adaptation of the Stephen King book of the same name and appears on the Ramones 1989 album Brain Drain.

Cinefamily on Fairfax is showing Pet Sematary as a double feature with The Oracle on Friday 10/23/15.

Also, if you are at Hollywood Forever for their Dia de los Muertos celebration on Saturday make sure to check out Johnny Ramone’s grave located near the mausoleum.

Run The Jewels- Banana Clipper (feat. Big Boi)

Killer Mike and El-P’s collaboration, Run The Jewels, is having a good year. They played Coachella this past April and are now on tour around the country. There are tickets available for their show at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Friday 10/16/15, which is the closest they are coming to Los Angeles for awhile.

The song above is off their first self titled album from 2013 and has Big Boi of Outkast, providing guest vocals. Killer Mike was featured on Outkast’s 2001 song The Whole World.  Currently their second album, Run The Jewels 2, is on their website as a free download. You can also download a free version of that album remixed by Just Blaze, Zola Jesus, Dan the Automator and more, with cat sounds added, called Meow the Jewels, created after a very popular Kickstarter campaign.

Beirut- Elephant Gun

This video for Beirut’s song from 2007 was directed by Alma Har’el who also directed the famous Sigur Rós video Fjögur píanó which stars Shia LeBeouf (seen below). She also directed the documentary film Bombay Beach which takes place in the community near the Salton Sea.

Gary Numan- I Die You Die

First released as a single in 1980, it was later put on overseas versions of Numan’s album of the same year, Telekon, but was not on its original release. I Die You Die was also covered by Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields in 1997.

Gary Numan will be performing Telekon in its entirety at the Teregram Ballroom tonight (10/1/15).

Front 242- Headhunter

This song is from Belgian EBM band Front 242′s 1988 album Front by Front. The video was made by photographer and director Anton Corbijn, whose new film Life, releasing in the US in December of this year, is about Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock (played by Robert Pattinson) and his friendship with James Dean.

Front 242 are playing at the Avalon in Hollywood this Sunday, 9/27/15.

Peach Kelli Pop- Princess Castle 1987

At Pehrspace tonight (9/12/15), Peach Kelli Pop are playing as part of Razorcake’s Residency which includes bands Massenger, Winter Break and King Walrus & the Magicians.  It’s their last show before leaving for a European tour.
