LACMA is screening Southland Tales with a conversation to follow with director Richard Kelly

Justus Proffit is kicking off his tour with Cryogeyser at Non Plus Ultra with Lunch Lady and Alms also performing

Knife Knights (Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets, Shabazz Palaces and producer/composer Erik Blood) are performing at the Bootleg Theater with special guest Lando Chill

Mating Ritual are playing an early free show with Lizzy Land at Gold Diggers

 

Friday

We Rise is a week long event (running until 5/27) promoting belonging and positive mental health with a lot of free programming including talks and film screenings, an art gallery, and more. Today Indigenous based arts & culture group Meztli Projects is hosting a free silkscreening lab, and later Creativity as The Way Through, an artist led discussion on processing trauma and challenges through art, will take place on the main stage. Check the schedule for the full weekend’s programming

If the weather is good grab some wine and food and head to LACMA where every Friday there are free outdoor jazz performances. This week- Otmaro Ruiz will be performing.

Joy Again are playing an early show with Milly and Lauren Early for Minty Boi’s night at El Cid

Ever Present (formerly Friday Flights) a free performance night at The Getty , starts this week with electronic composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith leading a guided meditation experience and opening sets by Cool Maritime and Emily Sprague

Artists Juan Capistrán and Kim Fisher will be discussing their work in the current exhibition COLA 2019 at Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG)

Photographer Mona Kuhn will be in conversation and signing her book She Disappeared Into Complete Silence at Arcana Books

Part Time Punks is hosting a night of 70s punk bands at the Echoplex with The Avengers, The Dils and The Alley Cats and special guests. The night is a celebration of the life of Jimmy Wilsey who performed with The Avengers and later Chris Isaak, with funds raised to benefit Wilsey’s surviving child.
