Friday

Hayden Thorpe (formerly of Wild Beasts) is performing at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever

It’s the last weekend (closing 11/11) to see Christian Marclay’s fun interactive exhibition Sound Stories and Mary Corse’s A Survey in Light and tonight there is also free jazz with a performance by Al Williams Jazz Society (LACMA is free for residents with ID starting at 3pm weekdays and is open Fridays until 8pm)

The Hollywood Bowl is hosting a screening of Disney’s Coco with a live orchestra accompanying the film (also on Saturday)

San Fermin are playing at Lodge Room with Joyero

YACHT are playing their new album Chain Tripping in its entirety, followed by other favorites at Zebulon

The Wende Museum is having an all day opening celebration for their exhibition The Medea Insurrection: Radical Women Artists Behind the Iron Curtain with a tour, reception and panel discussion with artists from the show

Hunter Shaw Fine Art is hosting a party for the release of Carla Issue 18- which includes music, drinks, and free copies of the magazine

Art critic and painter Peter Plagens will be discussing the work of Mary Corse with a special after hours viewing of her exhibition at LACMA which closes on 11/11 (free but ticket required)

We Rise is a week long event (running until 5/27) promoting belonging and positive mental health with a lot of free programming including talks and film screenings, an art gallery, and more. Today Indigenous based arts & culture group Meztli Projects is hosting a free silkscreening lab, and later Creativity as The Way Through, an artist led discussion on processing trauma and challenges through art, will take place on the main stage. Check the schedule for the full weekend’s programming

If the weather is good grab some wine and food and head to LACMA where every Friday there are free outdoor jazz performances. This week- Otmaro Ruiz will be performing.

Joy Again are playing an early show with Milly and Lauren Early for Minty Boi’s night at El Cid

Producer Irwin Winkler will be introducing a double feature of Raging Bull and The Killing of a Chinese Bookie at the Egyptian Theatre

Part Time Punks is hosting a night of 70s punk bands at the Echoplex with The Avengers, The Dils and The Alley Cats and special guests. The night is a celebration of the life of Jimmy Wilsey who performed with The Avengers and later Chris Isaak, with funds raised to benefit Wilsey’s surviving child.

To celebrate the life of Jeanne Moreau, the Aero Theatre is showing a double feature- La Notte and Diary of a Chambermaid (Saturday they are showing Jules and Jim and Bay of Angels)

Sunstock Solar Arts & Music Festival returns for its second year with bands Freedom Fry, Robert DeLong, Ra Ra Riot, Fuzzy Crystals, and more

ICA LA (Institute of Contemporary Art) is having it’s Grand Opening Weekend with exhibition tours, talks, performances, workshops and more (free, also on Sunday)

It’s the second day of the Day N Night Fest in Anaheim and tonight Chance The Rapper, SZA, Vic Mensa, Earl Sweatshirt, Lil Uzi Vert, and Playboi Carti are just some of the many performers (Travis Scott headlines Friday)

Pamela M. Lee, Osgood Hooker Professorship in Fine Arts, Stanford University, will be at LACMA to discuss the art scenes in New York and Los Angeles at the time Virginia Dwan operated her galleries in the two cities. The free lecture is in conjunction with LACMAs current exhibition Los Angeles to New York: Dwan Gallery, 1959–1971

For the opening of their exhibition at Gavlak Gallery, Los Super Elegantes will be performing a medley of their greatest performances
