This playlist is a selection of songs from bands and musicians that played in Los Angeles in February 2019.
Every week before posting the list of events for the weekend in Los Angeles, I listen to all the bands that are playing around the city (and occasionally elsewhere) to narrow down what shows I think are worth checking out. When I hear a band or singer I like, I choose one of their songs to put in that month’s playlist.

Yasiin Bey- Niggas in Poorest
On Sunday, 1/13/18, Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) will be performing over all Kanye West beats at The Regent Theater.
Alice Bag Band- Gluttony
The above video is from the Penelope Spheeris’ LA punk documentary The Decline of Western Civilization and features the band’s 1980 performance.
Lead singer and LA native Alice Bag just released her debut self titled album this month and is having a record release party on Saturday 7/2/16 at The Echo with Generacion Suicida and Fatty Cake and the Puff Pasties opening.
Squeeze- Up the Junction
This is from Squeeze’s 1979 album Cool For Cats. According to an article in The Guardian, in which the songwriters Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford discuss Up the Junction, the video was filmed in the kitchen of John Lennon’s old house where the Imagine video was made.
Tilbrook and Difford will be at the Wilshire Ebell for Squeeze Acoustic – “The At Odds Couple”- An Evening with Difford & Tilbrook on Saturday 11/14/15.
L7- Pretend We’re Dead
This is off Los Angeles band L7′s 1992 album Bricks are Heavy. They are currently on tour with the original lineup for the first time in 18 years. For their sold out date tonight at the Echo they are live-streaming on Spaceland Radio from 10:30-12.
