Pretenders- 2000 Miles
This song was released in 1983 as a B-side for the song “Middle of the Road”. Because it is considered a Christmas song, it is played often around the holidays and is on several holiday compilations.
Chrissie Hynde will be playing music from both her new album Stockholm as well as Pretenders songs for her show at the Pantages Theatre on Saturday Dec. 6th.

Biz Markie- Vapors
This song is off Biz Markie’s 1988 album Goin’ Off, but he did not gain real commercial success until his 1989 single, “Just A Friend”.
Currently he has a recurring segment on the kids TV show Yo Gabba Gabba called “Biz’s Beat of the Day” and is appearing in their live show this weekend at the Shrine Auditorium. He also guest starred on Spongebob Squarepants as Kenny the Cat and on Adventure Time as Snorlock the Beatboxing Slug.
This Sunday (11/23), he will be one of the DJs at the Echoplex along with Peanut Butter Wolf and J.Rocc.

The Psychedelic Furs- Pretty In Pink
This song was originally recorded in 1981 for the band’s album Talk Talk Talk. It was re-recorded in 1986 for use on the soundtrack of John Hughes’ film Pretty in Pink, clips of which play in the video. The film’s cast includes Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Jon Cryer (also known more recently as one of the men on Two and a Half Men), James Spader and Harry Dean Stanton.
The Psychedelic Furs are playing with 90s era band The Lemonheads at the Fonda theater on Saturday, 11/15.

Weezer- Buddy Holly
This song is off of Weezer’s 1994 self titled debut album, also known as The Blue Album. Both song and album were produced by Ric Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars. The video was directed by Spike Jonze and uses remarkably unchanged actor Al Molinaro from Happy Days in a cameo.
Weezer are playing at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles on 11/7.

Rockwell- Somebody’s Watching Me
LMFAO were not the first of Motown founder and CEO Berry Gordy’s relatives to achieve billboard success. In 1984, thirty years ago, Rockwell, (aka Kennedy William Gordy) Berry Gordy’s son, released this song. It peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 2, thanks in no small part to his childhood friend Michael Jackson’s backing vocals.
