Thursday

Fool’s Gold is playing at the Echoplex as part of Red Bull Sound Select- $3 with RSVP, $12 w/o

At the Central Library downtown, filmmaker Laura Gabbert and food critic Jonathan Gold will be guest speakers for Lost & Found at the Movies: Film to Table, a discussion of the way food is used in the movies (free but standby only)

The Women’s Center for Creative Work and the Craftswoman House will be showing Vega Darling’s documentary Lost Grrrls: Riot Grrrl In Los Angeles

Friday

YACHT/5 Every Day (the app they created) are hosting Friday Flights at The Getty with a list of collaborators that includes Yung Jake and a video premiere and installation by the band ($10 to park after 5pm, $15 before, with free admission to the museum)

Del the Funky Homosapien is at the Echoplex with DJ Qbert and street artist Mear One live painting

LA Live’s Dark Nights event returns with  $5 food and drink specials, live art installations and performances, music, a market, fire dancers and more (free)

Cold Showers are playing with Dunes at The Echo

Annenberg Space for Photography is hosting a panel on lifestyle and commercial photography with Gray Malin, Natalie James, Lauren Randolph and Stephanie Todaro and moderated by Ilana Saul (11am-1pm -$10)

Not to be confused with Fool’s Gold the band (listed above), Fool’s Gold Records is having its Day Off concert with headliners A-Trak, Action Bronson and Travi$ Scott at the Shrine

On the more quiet end of the performance spectrum, Temporary Space LA is having “An Early evening of Ambient” with performances by Daniel Lanois + Rocco Deluca, Musician’s Friend [Brian Foote + M. Geddes Gengras], and Ken Camden, as well as an open bar (free but RSVP)

Nearby LACMA is having their late night party- Muse ‘til Midnight feat. Adrian Younge and Venice Dawn with DJ’s in the galleries and a party in the plaza ($45 for nonmembers/$35 with membership)

Sunday

Thomas Dang, an artist in the Craft and Folk Art Museum’s excellent exhibition of art made by veterans, will be there all day with his pottery wheel giving demonstrations and talking about his ceramic work

Cinefamily is showing Robert Altman’s 1977 film 3 Women, his exploration of female identity starring Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall

It’s the last weekend to see Much Ado About Nothing as part of Griffith Park’s Shakepeare Festival (free)

Various Small Fires (VSF) is hosting Subject to Change, a panel discussion “addressing work that escapes its intended institutional frame, and the question of the unforseen audience response” with Andrea Fraser, Amelia Jones,Vanessa Place and Hamza Walker-

Ben Browning (of Cut Copy) and DMA’s are at the Santa Monica Pier for Australia Rocks The Pier (free)

Friday

The Natural History Museum is having an adults only sleepover that for $95 includes a scavenger hunt, DJs, movie screening, open craft beer and wine bar, midnight munchies, and more. It also includes their Summer Nights in the Garden program with access to the VIP lounge

The New Division are playing at Los Globos

For Stones Throw 45 Live at Fig at 7th, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam-Funk, and Mayer Hawthorne will be spinning all 45s and there will be a live performance by Mild High Club (free)

Saturday

If you missed it last time you have a second chance to see the 24 hour screening of Christian Marclay’s The Clock at LACMA but make sure to check their twitter for wait times, they can be long

As part of Sundance Next Fest Rick Alverson’s film Entertainment will be screening at the Ace Hotel Theater and Sharon Van Etten will be performing ($25)

At Pasadena Museum of California Art there will be a docent tour of Someday is Now: The Art of Corita Kent and screenprinting demonstration (free with museum admission) or check out the exhibition for free all day Friday

Campfireball is happening at The Frog Spot in Frogtown and will have food, drinks, music (starts at 5pm), art, performance and more at 7pm and really that’s as specific as it seems to get (free)

Also in Frogtown at WCCW– What Trickles Down, What Accumulates: Frogtown- Art and Organizing Against The System is a series of performances, presentations, artwork and an album listening pre-release of WHAT’S WORKING IS BROKEN, “an audio piece composed of personal testimonials of police violence and sounds recorded at protests against LAPD murders”. This event runs from 2:30-9pm with a $10 suggested donation for Youth Justice Coalition

The Low End Theory Festival still has tickets available for a lineup that includes Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt, Thundercat and more-

Yuna and Aloe Blacc are performing for this week’s Grand Performances at California Plaza (free)

The Hammer Museum is hosting The Watts Rebellion: 50 Years Later, a discussion of race relations past and present in the US with Gerald Horne, Brenda E. Stevenson, Johnie H. Scott

To Live and Dine in LA: A Live Mixtape is a “DJ-driven, multidimensional journey through the menu collection of the
Los Angeles Public Library and shine a light on the issues of food insecurity currently facing the city” with chef Roy Choi, artist Rakaa Iriscience (Dilated Peoples), and USC professor Josh Kun ($20)
