Beginning Friday and running until 7/24 is Union Station 360° a multi-sensory cinematic “360 experience” that will include a projection mapped art and video installation that will respond to visitor’s movement along with images of Los Angeles

For the Getty’s Friday Flights, there will be a musical performance by Chris Cohen, a multi-site music performance by wild Up’s Andrew Tholl, Song of Eurydice, a choral and dance performance by mecca vazie andrews and Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs, a poetry reading organized by artist Keith J. Varadi, and a film program presented by Veggie Cloud.

For the third in LACMA’s program series focusing on Frank Gehry’s three areas of interest—art, science, and music- the architect’s process and collaboration during the planning and construction of Walt Disney Concert Hall will be the focus. Gehry will be in conversation with two people with whom he worked closely during the years leading up to the hall’s opening: Esa-Pekka Salonen, former music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Deborah Borda, who came to Los Angeles in 2000 as LA Phil president and chief executive officer. They will be joined by LACMA’s senior curator of modern art, Stephanie Barron, curator of the Frank Gehry exhibition. This conversation will take place off site at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. ($25)

Death Cab for Cutie are at the Orpheum Theatre

Downtown Art Walk is back- this time in addition to the art, you can check out a holiday concert on the world’s largest harp (at 6 and 8pm at City National Tower)

At LACMA, Art + Technology Lab grant recipient Nana Oforiatta-Ayim is launching phase one of her project, Cultural Encyclopaedia, a large-scale documentation and archive effort dedicated to mapping cultural production on the African continent. The second part of the program will feature a short film documenting Oforiatta-Ayim’s use of the kiosk as a model for the traveling museum as well as a collector of culture and history. (free but ticket required)

There is a free party hosted by the Triforium Project for the 40th anniversary of Joseph Young’s sculpture. There will be music, speakers, cake, and a chance to learn about the project which hopes to restore the sculpture to its former musical and light glory.
