Kanye West- Through The Wire

This song was released in 2003 and was on his debut album- The College Dropout. The song is about his near fatal car accident in 2002.  At this time he was known mainly as a producer and was trying to prove he could be a rapper.

Fame and personal tragedy have certainly had their effect on Kanye over the past 10 years, but it’s still interesting to look back and see where it all began.

Mazzy Star- Halah

Mazzy Star has a new album out Seasons of Your Day. My favorite is still their first album, She Hangs Brightly, which the song above is from. The band is probably best known for the song “Fade Into You”, from their second album, which was used in pretty much everything.

They are playing at The Wiltern tonight (11/7).

The Pharcyde- Drop

Another innovative video from Spike Jonze. The Pharcyde memorized the song in reverse so it would sync with the backwards video.  From 1995, it also has some great shots of downtown Los Angeles and a cameo from Ad Rock and Mike D of the Beastie Boys.

A brief behind the scenes look-
