Kelley Walker, “Pioneer PL-518 7-inch Series Love (Is The Answer)” (2015), Pantone 4-color process silkscreen with acrylic ink on MDF

The work above is Kelley Walker’s Pioneer PL-518 7-inch Series Love (Is The Answer) (2015) from the exhibition Terry Adkins, Christian Marclay, Kelley Walker, that was on view at Paula Cooper Gallery in NYC this past March.

From the gallery about Kelley Walker-

Known for his manipulation of long-circulating images from advertising and other sources, Kelley Walker examines the consumption of visual culture using collage, screen-printing, sculpture, and installation. Bose Glitter Stock (2016) and Untitled (Screen to Screen) (2017) contain montages of superimposed silkscreen images printed on polyester mesh substrate, the armature for screen printing. Pioneer PL-518 7-inch Series Love (Is The Answer) (2015) is a grid of silkscreened panels that reproduce vinyl records and their packaging. Walker referenced the legendary Pioneer brand of turntables, famously advertised by Andy Warhol, as part of his investigation into the visual culture of the 1970s and 1980s New York disco scene.

VR SEX- Walk of Fame

This song is from VR SEX’s 2022 album, Rough Dimension. The band is playing with The Spits on Thursday, 8/10, at Zebulon in Los Angeles.

The video above stars Angelyne, an LA icon famous for her billboards and driving around the city in her pink Corvette. Hollywood Reporter detailed her backstory in 2017 and it’s a very interesting read. There was also a mini series about her released in 2022.

This song is from The Dare’s 2023 The Sex EP. They are playing in Idyllwild, California this weekend (8/4-8/6/23) as part of FWB Fest. Other acts on the roster include Caroline Polachek, Yves Tumor, and Helado Negro.

The song is also on June’s playlist along with a song from LCD Soundsystem who The Dare share similarities with.

Sinéad O’Connor- Feel So Different

Sad to hear of the passing of the brave, beautiful, and talented musician Sinéad O’Connor yesterday at 56 years old. A true artist with a phenomenal voice, she always stood firm in her convictions. The song above is from her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got released in 1990.

To learn more about O’Connor, her memoir Rememberings was released in 2021 and there is also the 2022 documentary,  Nothing Compares.
